Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent and devastating neurodegenerative disease in the world, estimated to affect over 55 million people. The risk of developing AD increases with age, and as life expectancy continues to increase, the number of people suffering from this debilitating disease is expected to double every 20 years.

Our Research Focus

Our research interests are aimed at understanding the molecular, cellular and systemic mechanisms of degenerative nervous system disorders to yield knowledge relevant for the understanding, prevention, and treatment also of chronic neurological and psychiatric disorders. We aim at analyzing critical cascades of neuronal toxicity and at unraveling neuroprotective mechanisms which may provide a basis for selective therapeutic interventions and attempts to recover brain function. Our research activities are directed to develop novel treatment strategies.
